Closed Doors

It’s funny watching a cat’s reaction to closed doors. Mr. Fluffers is obsessed with unearthing the secrets behind the closed door. He peeps his head underneath, sniffs at the seal, paws at the door knob, and let’s out the strangest meow imaginable. Once the door is opened generally one of two things will happen. Ironically, he will either lose interest either immediately or after walking through the opened door and making a sweep of the room. With the latter he loses interest because his sweep turns up no interesting secrets or hidden treasures, just an empty room. With the former his interest was primarily the closed door not what was behind it.

I’ve found the same holds true of missed opportunities, maybe you’ve rejected someone or perhaps they’ve rejected you. There was the possibility of seeing someone, but they were emotionally or otherwise unavailable to you and now look “they’re single again.” Perhaps you were attempting to ignite a spark that just wasn’t there. Then there is the temptation to stalk this person on social media, or worst. I know the Borg “Resistance is futile” mentality takes over but limit your quest to 10 minutes and then get over it, trust me you’re better off. Usually what you'll find is not what you were expecting.

The door of opportunity has shut! Worst, it leaves you frustrated with aching paws and vocal cords when you realize you’ve been meowing and scratching at an empty room… no one is listening.

Don’t harm yourself over something that wasn’t meant to be. It always seems like they’ve gotten taller or more attractive, or somehow acquired more financially. This is rarely true, and likely something you've conjured up in your head to convince yourself you're missing out, you're not! Remember it’s better to look back on the past with hindsight not tunnel vision. Generally, the same issues that were present then are liabilities now. Never doubt or devalue yourself for someone else.
